What is Easy Issue Templates for Jira?

Easy Issue Templates for Jira is a powerful app that helps teams streamline issue creation by using pre-configured templates for Initiative and Epic hierarchies, tasks, subtasks, stories, bugs and more. It reduces manual input, ensures consistency, and improves efficiency across different Jira projects and workflows.

The app supports Jira Software, Jira Service Management (JSM), and Jira Work Management, working seamlessly with company-managed, team-managed, service, business, and software projects. Whether you need to standardize bug reports, streamline IT service requests, or automate recurring tasks in business operations, Easy Issue Templates helps teams create issues faster and more accurately.

This guide will help you quickly set up and start using templates to enhance your Jira experience. πŸš€

  1. Install the App

    • As System Admin - Install Easy Issue Templates from the Atlassian Marketplace.

      • Find β€œEasy Issue Templates” or

      • Go to Apps β†’ Manage Apps β†’ Find New Apps in Jira navbar menu

    • Ensure you have the necessary Jira permissions to manage templates.

  2. Create Your First Template

    • Navigate to Jira Issue β†’ β€œβ€¦β€ dot menu β†’ Save as template

    • or go to Manage Templates (see below) β†’ click Create Template and import existing Jira issue to save as a template

    • Navigate to the saved template β†’ adjust Summary, Description, other fields and dynamic variables if needed. Keep only relevant fields enabled.

    • Review and set visibility scope.

  3. Create Jira Issue from the template

    1. To create issues - navigate to Apps β†’ Templates or Find β€œTemplates” menu item in the project (sidebar/top) menu.

    2. Choose a target Project, Template.

    3. Review template’s structure, and fill in variables (if present).

    4. Choose β€œPrefill” or β€œCreate” flow.

    5. Get your Jira issues created.

  4. Apply a Template to an existing Issue

    1. Open Jira Issue β†’ β€œβ€¦β€ dot menu β†’ Apply Template.

    2. Select a template and click Apply.

    3. The issue fields will be auto-filled based on the template settings and child issues created.

  5. Manage Templates

    1. As System Admin go to Apps β†’ Manage Apps β†’ Easy Templates β†’ Manage Templates

    2. or as a Project Admin go to Project Settings β†’ Apps β†’ Easy Templates

    3. Organize templates based on projects, issue types, or teams.

    4. Regularly review and update templates to keep them relevant.

  6. Train Your Team

    1. Share documentation or provide a quick walkthrough.

    2. Ensure team members know how to apply templates efficiently.
